As often happens with our restaurant categories, we got quite
a few people saying, "I hate to tell you about this place
because it's so small and I'm afraid I won't be able to get in
if more people know about it." Well, we can sympathize: As
long as we can still get a table at Marnee Thai, on Irvington
Street in San Francisco, we're not going to share our little secret
either.
Still, there are enough generous souls out there
that we have some solid recommendations for you. The most solid
seems to be Thai Basil, 101 S. Murphy Ave., Sunnyvale, (408) 773-1098,
which received five nominations. It's recommended by Theo Reynolds,
himself a restaurateur, who says, "I eat out a lot and I'm
very critical. Their prices are very reasonable, and the food
is very flavorful." Their Pad Pak (spicy vegetables) and
chicken with basil are absolute must-haves at least once a month,"
write Anita and Ashok Inamdar. Susan Janelle and Michael Barraza
say the service is "impeccable." And similar raves come
from Carole and Ershun Lee and Patrice and Vincent Sartor.
